Dr. Shiva Salehi’s first career was not in dentistry, but in computer science. A graduate of King’s College in London, she did not at first follow the steps of famous doctors from that university (such as Joseph Lister, the inventor of antiseptic surgery). Nevertheless, a short while after graduation she realized that when she was working on computers she missed working with people. Plus, she likes working with her hands and their primary function in computer science is simply manipulating a keyboard.
Therefore, when she returned to her hometown in the Bay Area she decided to make the switch to dental school. That required first studying the basics of biology and physiology in order to make the complex topics in dentistry. After completing her medical pre-requisites at Foothill College and an internship at Stanford studying blood disorders, she moved on to the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Dr. Salehi so enjoyed her time there that she returned to teach after graduation and continues to serve as a part-time UOP faculty member.
Serving the Marconi Dental Group as a general dentist, Dr. Salehi most enjoys helping patients regain functional teeth and smiles by installing crowns and bridges. Her work in this aspect of dentistry is greatly assisted by the ongoing improvements in digital imaging that allow our lab to create restorations electronically.
Dr. Salehi appreciates working with the friendly staff and modern equipment at the Marconi Dental Group. Known for her light touch and pain-free work, she is an excellent choice for patients that suffer from fear of dental procedures.
