Dr. Maryam Saleh, DDS and FAGD, is a skilled general dentist and an experienced provider of Invisalign in the greater Sacramento area. She also has a considerable case history with pediatric dentistry and brings this passion for working with young people to the Marconi Dental Group. Her presence helps make our Carmichael office a full-fledged family practice.
Dr. Saleh graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry after earning her undergraduate degree in Biology at Pennsylvania State University. While she always enjoyed studying science, Dr. Saleh found that “being stuck in a lab and staring through microscopes” just did not appeal to her. Friends seeking degrees in dentistry convinced her to join the college dental club and shadow a local dentist at work. Soon she was hooked on dentistry as her career.
Dr. Saleh immediately started studying dentistry and became a dental assistant while attending college. She realized that dentistry had the benefit of allowing her to work in medicine, yet still have time for a family. And it was at dental school where Dr. Saleh took a huge step towards starting the family that she wanted.
Finding Her Future in New York City
Dr. Ashkan Alizadeh was already studying in New York, one year ahead of Dr. Saleh. They got along well during their studies and when she finished her degree, she too came to California to complete her residency in dentistry. During this period she gained significant experience with complicated dental procedures typically seen in general dentistry, especially those involving oral surgery. Later, she settled in the Sacramento area with her now husband, Dr. Alizadeh.
Dr. Alizadeh and Dr. Saleh have three children together, a daughter and two sons. They make the perfect professional pair as general dentists at the Marconi Dental Group. “We have the same goals and objectives for patient care. We know that we’re both highly committed to the practice and together we give patients the choice between a male or female practitioner. Best of all, we can now offer pediatric dentistry too.”
What are a DDS and a FAGD?
A DDS is a Doctor of Dental Surgery, but an FAGD is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. While a DDS is a standard dental degree, only 13,000 dentists hold the FAGD worldwide. Becoming a fellow of the Academy requires passing a lengthy examination and completing hundreds of hours of continuing education in dentistry. Like Dr. Alizadeh, Dr. Saleh is convinced that the key to providing quality dental care involves continual study of the latest developments in dentistry. The FAGD is proof of Dr. Saleh’s dedication to high professional standards and the well-being of her patients.
Besides her membership as a FAGD, Dr. Saleh is also active in the local dental community. She is a member of the American and California Dental Associations, the California Academy of General Dentistry, the Sacramento District Dental Society, and this local organization’s Smiles for Kids Program. Smiles for Kids supports area schools with dental education and health screenings.
