Taking Action for Dental Health
The American Dental Association recently announced that they want dentists across the United States to take Action for Dental Health. Why is this necessary and what does it mean? Action is needed because literally millions of people in our country have untreated dental health problems that lead to serious complications. Action for Dental Health encourages dentists and communities to work together to solve these problems.
What About the Affordable Care Act?
While the Affordable Care Act does create some provisions for dental care, especially for children and the poor, since the law focuses primarily on medical insurance, and not dental insurance, millions of Americans are left without dental health coverage. As a result, people leave tooth decay and other complications untreated, until the pain sends them to an emergency room. By that time, teeth that could have been saved end up extracted and oral infections have spread throughout the body through the blood stream. Prevention of tooth decay and early treatment of gum disease and cavities are essential.
