How Are You Brushing Your Teeth?

That’s why it’s important to make sure you’re reaching your gums when you brush. Scrubbing circles over your teeth alone won’t cut it! Spend a solid two minutes at the least in making sure you access your entire gumline. Short, gentle, jiggling motions at the gumline are best for loosening plaque that causes gum inflammation.
Why We Stress the Flossing
A toothbrush is important, but it won’t reach in-between your teeth. Floss should be carefully wiggled between teeth and then wrapped around a tooth in a C-shape. The floss should be slipped just below the gums and then gently moved up and down against the tooth. Then you switch to the other side. This removes harmful bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease.

A water flosser is excellent for flushing out areas prone to tartar buildup or food-impaction. For some patients, a water flosser is a lifesaver when manual flossing is physically too difficult for them. These powered tools really enhance the oral hygiene fundamentals!

There are many over-the-counter rinses with ingredients that combat the development of inflammation-causing bacteria. Some with stronger antibacterial properties are available by prescription. When used in conjunction with proper brushing and flossing techniques, a rinse can help you maintain excellent gum health.
